Virus Syndicate – The Swarm LP

Virus SyndicateFresh from releasing the Karateman mixtape alongside Jaguar Skills, Manchester crew Virus Syndicate return in 2014 with new single ‘Worker Bees’, and their 3rd studio album ‘The Swarm’ (31 March). After ten years in the business, Virus Syndicate have transcended their grime roots and influenced the worlds of electronic music and hip-hop like no other UK act; infiltrating every genre with witty, gritty urban clarity, no corner of the industry is safe from their boundary bashing lyrical lashings. Combining electro, drum & bass, house, trap, bass and more; DJ MRK1 and MCs Nika D, Goldfinger and JSD’s collaborative conjurations resonate with all, while standing well and truly on their own.

The Syndicate release ‘The Swarm LP’ on 31 March 2014 in the midst of a European album tour, which includes a key date in their home town of Manchester. Their recent single ‘Sick Wid It’ lays out the agenda of the ten year old crew who say ‘You should’ve listened from the get go, cause we ain’t ever gonna let go, and we be making your cassette blow…’

It’s been this way since they emerged on the impeccable agenda-setting experimental electronica stable Planet Mu in 2005. A move that surpassed all standard grime limitations, less than a decade later and their achievements are matchless: diffusing organically from the north of England to the North Pole, from the USA to the Ukraine, they’ve scored big numbers with every show and every sound… 4.5 million YouTube views (and counting), six Top 10s including several Number 1’s on Beatport and Artist Of The Week on MTV. Dedicated to pushing the very limits of word play and production techniques, Virus Syndicate have appeared on labels as disparate as Ministry Of Sound and Never Say Die, from Buygore to Bomb Squad. They’ve collaborated with some of the most exciting producers you can imagine; Jaguar Skills, SKiSM, Foreign Beggars, Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs, Rockwell, Buku and many, many more. They’re also the only UK act to be given the green light to cover Pink Floyd’s household hit ‘Money’. With numerous key releases under their belts including The Work Related Illness LP (2005), Contagious Vol 1 (2007), and Sick Pay (2008), Virus Syndicate have developed to establish something much bigger than their own beats. Setting up EY3 Media and Midication Recordings in 2012, the crew have founded a creative platform for the next generation of talent from Manchester and beyond. Midication is home to some of the most exciting names in electronic music while EY3 is a nurturing ground for all forms of visual, physical and technical artists of the future. Based in the heart of Manchester, it’s the only professional creative centre of its kind in the city, and allows local talent to mix with international, established artists.

Midication have also signed collaborator, producer / DJ Son Of Kick, whose current single Hours also features UK artists Lady Leshurr and Paigey Cakey. The single is getting spins from Zane Lowe and Mistajam, and the official video was released via UKF this week. Hours is released via Midication on 21 April.

The effects of the Virus Syndicate story have only truly started to kick in!
